Are the weight loss injections effective?
Research now clearly shows how effective the slimming injections Mounjaro and Wegovy are for weight loss. For instance, one clinical trial of Mounjaro patients found that, on average, after 72 weeks patients lost 15% of their starting body weight. The equivalent of this would be someone weighing 280lbs (20 stone), dropping down to 238lbs (17 stone). To sum up, people on the higher doses of Mounjaro 10mg and 15mg lost on average more than 20% of their starting body weight.
Similarly, one clinical trial of Wegovy patients found that after 68 weeks patients on averaged weighed 14.9% less than their starting weight. This represented an average of 15.3kg (33.5lbs!) lost. Patients taking a placebo only lost 2.6kg on average.

How does the weight loss injection work?
Wegovy works by binding to GLP-1 receptors in the body. As a result, it makes you feel more full and less hungry. Consequently, by doing this, Wegovy helps to control your appetite and therefore reduce the amount of calories you eat. Likewise, Mounjaro works by binding to GLP-1 receptors; however, it also binds to GIP receptors to achieve the same goal of reducing your appetite. Moreover, it can improve insulin sensitivity and insulin secretion, in turn, reducing blood sugar levels.

The UK previously had a weight loss injection called Saxenda, but the manufacturer stopped it because Wegovy proved more effective.
